FEKER Alice 80 is a mechanical keyboard known for its compact layout and unique design. It is a 75% keyboard, which means it retains most of the keys found on a standard full-sized keyboard while eliminating the number pad and navigation cluster. The Feker Alice 80 features a split layout with a central gap between the main keyboard and the arrow cluster, creating a visually distinct and ergonomic typing experience. I've been using it on my desktop for over a month now, and I'll explain its pros and cons in this review.

Why Choose an Ergonomic Mechanical Keyboard

Choosing an ergonomic split mechanical keyboard can do you a lot of good, especially if you spend a lot of time typing on your computer every day. Here are the top reasons why it's worth choosing a keyboard with these features:

  1. Comfort: Ergonomic keyboards are designed to minimize muscle strain, reduce pain, and prevent or relieve typing-related conditions such as carpal tunnel or repetitive stress syndrome.
  2. Durability: Mechanical keyboards are known for their durability, and in fact they're often high-end keyboards that you can count on for solid construction. The keys on a mechanical keyboard can last for millions of keystrokes, much longer than traditional membrane keyboards.
  3. Typing Experience: Mechanical keyboards offer tactile and audible feedback that many users are satisfied with. This feedback can also help improve typing speed and accuracy.
  4. Customization: Many mechanical keyboards allow you to customize their switches. This means you can choose the type of resistor and feedback you like, and you can use different types of switches for different keys.
  5. Efficiency: Thanks to the key layout, the ergonomic keyboard promotes natural hand and wrist posture for increased efficiency and typing speed.

Just keep in mind that there's a bit of a learning curve when switching to an ergonomic keyboard, as the layout can be very different from what you're used to. However, many users find that the benefits far outweigh the time it takes to adapt to the new arrangement.

How to Connect to PC - Connection and Configuration

The Feker Alice80 Ergonomic Mechanical Keyboard can be connected to a PC in 3 different ways: wired, Bluetooth and wireless. A wired connection is naturally the fastest, but Bluetooth 5.0 and 2.4 Ghz WiFi via the USB adapter included in the package performed excellently and ensured satisfactory stability and speed.

The keyboard can be connected to up to 5 devices at the same time, so it can also be associated with multiple operating systems without any trouble.

How it is Built – Design, Switches and Backlighting

The build quality of the Feker Alice 80 is impressive and puts in our hands a solid, heavy, massive, absolutely stable and well-built keyboard, as regards dimensions and weight we are talking about 368 mm in length, 128 mm in width and a height variable that reaches a maximum of 40 mm, the weight reaches 1,080 grams.

Inside the body, made entirely of excellent quality plastic, we find a double PCB compatible with 3 or 5-pin switches equipped with LED backlighting which offers an average brightness level limited by the closed PCB keys. The plate is then supported by many and z which manage to create a cushioned effect during typing and guarantee an excellent level of sound absorption with the keyboard which is much quieter than the average of mechanical keyboards.

On an aesthetic level, I appreciated the combination of black plastics and yellow and white keycaps, the result is pleasant and very modern, perfect for any type of gaming or work station.

Feker alice 80 keyboard keycaps

The keyboard has an ANSI layout with US keys, which may not be suitable for everyone, but you get used to it quickly. There are two differences from the classic Italian layout: the Enter key is narrow and long, and the accented “\” is found on the long button above the Enter key.

Feker Alice 80 Keyboard Design

The layout is an Alicekeys with some small variations, in fact there are both the directional arrows and a comfortable knob for adjusting the system volume. The peculiarity lies precisely in the Alice Ergonomic Design which removes all the function keys, is remedied with the FN key and key combinations, and breaks the keyboard in half by separating its parts and tilting them to offer the hands a more comfortable and natural position and improve therefore the yield in the typing phase and, above all, reduce potential pain and physical problems in the long run.

The supplied keys are PBT dye-sub Keycaps with Cherry Profile and are solid, resistant and very comfortable to use. I liked them, too bad that with this format they are impossible to find on the market due to the double B and the small double space bar.

The backlighting is average which, due to the positioning of the LEDs and the closed keycaps, is not very incisive but still nice and well customizable thanks to the various combinations and dedicated software.

The switches are Gateron Pro 2.0 Yellow Linear type with actuation force of 50 ± 15 gf, actuation distance of 2 ± 0.6 mm and total stroke of 4.0 ± 0.4 m and are lubricated during assembly, which makes them very fast, precise and pleasant to press. The response is excellent and typing takes place absolutely satisfactorily and they are well supported by excellent stabilizers connected directly to the plate.

User Experience and Feeling

Getting familiar with the Alice ergonomic layout of the Feker Alice 80 certainly required a few hours of practice and patience. After a few days of use, I managed to get used to the new configuration of this mechanical keyboard and I must say that the feeling and user experience when writing and typing are absolutely satisfactory.

This satisfaction derives above all from the "broken" layout which guarantees a natural position of the hands and wrists, provided that the wrist rest is always used to avoid unnatural postures, and considerably reduces the lateral movements of the arms. The more linear and relaxed position of the forearms also allows for more relaxed shoulders and less load on the upper back. The arrangement of the keys, with the presence of the double letter B and the double space bar, guarantees excellent speed and a convenience unattainable with the classic formats. The Alice layout is absolutely convincing and was perfect for my use of long writing sessions. The benefits are felt and I believe that every programmer, writer or copywriter should use an Alice keyboard.

A peculiarity of the layout that I appreciated is the space next to the space bars which leaves a place to rest the thumbs without the risk of accidentally pressing some buttons.

Then the excellent switches that I particularly appreciated contribute, I found them comfortable, precise, fast and "hard enough" to ensure perfect typing, always smooth, very comfortable and free of typos.

Overall, the experience in working use is fantastic and guarantees excellent performance, comfort and precision. The layout doesn't make it really suitable for gaming, but nothing prevents you from using it with satisfaction even for playing.

Cons – What I didn't like

The Feker Alice80 is an almost perfect keyboard, but I still wanted to find two small flaws:

  1. The lack of function keys slows down some types of use and work
  2. The particular layout with the double B and the small double spacebar considerably reduces the customization possibilities since it is practically impossible to find keycaps compatible with this format

How Long Does the Battery Last

The Feker Alice80 keyboard mounts an 8,000 mAh battery that offers a range of a couple of weeks, a lot also depends on the use of the backlight but given the lack of incisiveness you can seriously consider disabling it.

Consumption naturally varies according to the type of use and the connection method, in any case you will always be able to cover the working week without worries.

How Much Does It Cost – FEKER Alice 80 Price

The Feker Alice80 is not a cheap mechanical keyboard, but unfortunately quality comes at a price, we are talking about 124.99 USD, a price that is certainly not low but absolutely interesting given the characteristics of the keyboard. You can buy the Feker Alice80 keyboard on WhatGeek.

A piece of advice, consider buying the wrist rest as well, it costs USD 28.99 but it's worth them all. Without the palm rest, the use is particularly uncomfortable and not very easy.

Who is Suitable for Feker Alice80

The Feker Alice80 is an ergonomic mechanical keyboard that offers an intuitive and comfortable typing experience thanks to its Alice format. The build quality is excellent, the factory lubricated switches are of excellent quality and the keycaps are comfortable and well built.

The Feker Alice80 is a keyboard capable of offering a unique user experience and I highly recommend it to all copywriters, writers and programmers who spend many hours a day typing and want an impeccable, fast and comfortable keyboard.

I’ve been using one of these with Kailh Box Brown v2 switches as my daily driver for several months, and it’s been amazing. My only gripe is that modifying the configuration using VIA is super confusing and unintuitive.
